New book on refrigeration technology by Prof. Hackensellner. Now available.
In collaboration with VDE Verlag, Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Thomas Hackensellner provides a comprehensive overview of how cooling technology works and its practical application. The publication is aimed at professionals, students, and trainees in the fields of refrigeration and energy technology.
The book begins with the fundamental principles of refrigeration technology, covering system design, thermodynamics, and energy-related aspects. It then presents various types of refrigeration systems and their components using practical, real-world configurations.
Key topics include the energy and environmental evaluation of different refrigeration methods, such as absorption, adsorption, Peltier, and magnetocaloric systems. The book also addresses sustainability across the entire lifecycle of refrigeration systems—from energy generation and system planning to operation and decommissioning.
Additional focus areas include the use of numerical simulation models to optimize system design, operation, and maintenance, as well as the integration of digital technologies to enable efficient and environmentally friendly refrigeration solutions. A dedicated chapter explores the growing importance of cold storage. Real-world application examples from industrial cooling, medical technology, and climate control further illustrate the practical relevance of the content.
Prof. Hackensellner has served as Head of the “Patents and Technical Regulations” department at Glen Dimplex Deutschland GmbH in Kulmbach since 2005. He is also an adjunct professor in the field of energy technology at the Technical University of Munich.
“With this book, I aim not only to convey technical knowledge but also to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable refrigeration technology as a key enabler of an energy-efficient future.”
The technical book is available in German, both as a printed edition and as an e-book. Interested readers can order it directly via the publisher’s website:
